best for people who are not light sleepers
I stayed in a private room on the ground floor, which is the only unit with a private bath. this is a hotstel so I wasn't expecting anything too incredibly fancy. I could hear every step in the room above me, so I ended up moving to one of the private rooms on the second floor that shares the bathroom. This hostel does have a lot of rules, but they did refund me the difference in price after I moved to the less expensive room, although the rules say no refunds.. The hostel is on the edge of town, so the only thing right by the hostel is a cafe. But Crested Butte isn't that big of a town so it is easy enough to walk to the center of town. The hostel is near the road that connects Crested Butte to Gunnison and Mt. Crested Butte (the ski resort) - traffic noise wasn't usually an issue although I was woken up one night by a truck going by. The main noise issue was from people who didn't heed the signs to not slam the doors. Apparently there is bakery that operates out of the back of the hostel, so sometimes you could smell stuff being baked, which is a good thing or a bad thing based on your perspective. They would have a few baked goods for sale sometimes in the afternoon. The kitchen and living room are nice sized - i was there in the fall which was not a peak time so the kitchen and bathroom areas were not very crowded. There is a laundry on premises - wash was a $1.75, I think the dryers were 25 cents/5 minutes and the soap was $1. There is a computer available but there is a charge.

Great deal considering location
I have been coming to CB for 15 years, and my parents have been visiting since the late 60's. Housing is far from a bargain in this town, but when you consider the ammenites the town has to offer, we keep coming back. My fiancée an I were in town planning our wedding for next fall and to hike. Given that our trip was planning on how to spend our money next fall, our goal for this short wknd excursion was to stay cheap. We stayed in the first floor private bath room and found it to be adequate. If the bedspread and shower curtain were newer, this room would be excellent. There is a considerable fan noise adjacent to the room, however it never bothered our sleeping.Yes, it is more expensive than comparably equipped hostels in other parts of the country (or world) however it is probably the most affordable housing option in Crested Butte.

Different
This place is different but would go back. Appears to be run down - needs new carpets, comforters, linen, pots/pans. This is not high quality lodging, but is fun to meet others. There is a common tv area, kids toys, and games down stairs. Very active nightlife.

10 Reasons to stay here!
The hostel is an inexpensive way to stay in Crested Butte. We brought our own sleeping bags and a cooler of food. Each bunk had a reading lamp and the hostel was quiet at night. The room was hot, but we were provided with a large fan which helped circulate the air. The shared bathroom was immaculate. We did need to bring our own towels and toiletries, but there are benches and towel hooks which provide a convenient place for these things. My children have asked to stay at the hostel the next time we are in Crested Butte. They loved the community environment!
