Annual Great Biloxi Schooner Race
Held in June to celebrate the seafood factories that once dotted the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Annual Great Biloxi Schooner Race is nearly a century old tradition.
In honor to celebrate the 1890s schooners constructed by each seafood factory to harvest shrimp and oysters, the Great Biloxi Schooner Race is newer riff on the races held in the summer months by the factories to see which factor had the fastest schooner.
Nowadays, the famous Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum-Biloxi Schooners race along the Mississippi Gulf Coast shoreline under full sail as part of the annual Blessing of the Fleet and is considered a celebration of the onset of shrimping season!
The best shore viewing of the event is said to be anywhere along Highway 90 between the Biloxi Lighthouse (Highway 90 & Porter Avenue) & Schooner Pier Complex.
