As of late Thursday, May 6th, there is still no oil on the beaches of major Gulf Coast vacation spots such as Gulf Shores, Destin, Orange Beach, Perdido Key, Fort Walton, or Pamana City Beach. This afternoon NOAA issued an updated forecast for the spill. You can see it here -- (caution-- large file) or by visiting the Deepwater Horizon Incident page. While the spill is a terrible situation, the good news for now is that NOAA is not predicting oil to come ashore on the Alabama or Northwest Florida beaches for the next 72 hours. This means that the spill is expected to stay off of these lovely beaches due to Southerly and South-westerly winds. The beaches are as clean and beautiful as ever and they are uncrowded. If you can make it here for the weekend you will enjoy our sugary white sand, no crowds and most importatnly, NO OIL!
See for yourself in this video from one of the many reputable property management companies that serve the tourism industry along the Gulf.
So, if you want come on down and support the local economy... and enjoy the great beaches, book a stay for this coming weekend!
Thanks.
