The third annual cactus naming contest is underway at The Boulder Resort and Golden Door Spa. From March 29 – June 1, the "Name the Cactus" contest is open to the public. Do you have a name for your car? Your computer? Your iPod? Why not name a cactus and possibly win some awesome vacation prizes! It's easy to enter and winners are chosen based on creativity and originality.
There are photos of six cacti waiting to be named, so six winners will be chosen as the recipients of the cactus naming contest vacation giveaways. Each of the winners will get: Two nights in a deluxe casitaat the AAA Award winning, Waldorf Astoria Collection The Boulders Resort and Golden Door Spa; a $500 airfare gift card; Daily breakfast for two at Palo Verde; and Two twosomes at The Boulders Golf Course.
Most importantly, the winners may be able to meet their cactus face-to-face! These prickly little creatures need some TLC, and what better way to honor their presence in the desert than to bestow them with individual names? Some names of past winners are “Gladtameetchoo,” “Mr. Grumps,” “Double Barrel Darrel,” and "Captain Cact-Eye.”
It's not everyday that you get to personify a plant and get rewarded for it--so don't let this opportunity pass you by! The Boulders is giving you a chance to flaunt your creativity. At the very least, you may get a kick out of naming a spiky green plant after an enemy--all in good fun, of course. AAA Arizona and the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau sponsor the cactus naming contest.
