Since the sudden and massive Haiti earthquake on Tues, rescue teams and volunteers have been working around the clock to unveil the hopeful survivors and tragic losses of this natural disaster. Hitting the country with a 7.3 on the Richter Scale, this earthquake has been one of the largest disasters in recent history...worldwide. With the hospitals' over crowding, and the continuous flow of injured people, many are left out in the streets to wait for supplementary care.
Many countries have joined in the relief efforts including United States, France, the Dominican Republic (who actually share the same land mass), and Israel, just to name a few. Although the death toll has not yet been established, a very rough estimate has been voiced that is anywhere between 30,000 and 100,000 people. It may take weeks or even longer to get a correct number as every hour they are recovering more safe, injured, and deceased persons from the rubble.
Even the president of the country has been left without a home as he so fortunately survived both the palace and his personal home being little more than destroyed. Haiti is the poorest nation on the Western Hemisphere and in order for them to recover from this tragic event, they are relying on the relief efforts and donations from other nations and individuals around the world. CNN covered the progress of the death toll and other news relating the Haiti earthquake in a recent report.
