It can be challenging to buy great gifts for everyone on your list, take care of normal living expenses and make it out to your favorite ski spot all within a number of weeks. That's why it is adventageous to plan ahead, budget, and follow some simple vacation ideas.
Families are stretching their travel dollars to the fullest extent this year, and many have devised a plan for making the bucks last. Gadling came up with a list of valued tactics for getting the most out of their holiday season without sacrificing a great winter vacation. Here's a synopsis, with one or two of our own pointers mixed in:
- Use budget travel sites to book your vacation rentals. They seriously do work.
- Research gas prices in every area you will travel through. This way you can ensure the best gas value in each location.
- Shop at big name stores prior to your trip to get great prices on drinks and snacks for the road instead of shopping at convenience stores the whole route. You would be surprised at the savings.
- If you like camping, consider it as an alternative... it depends on where you are traveling in the winter.
- Don't rent a car if you are going to a big city. There is public transportation for a reason.
- Shy away from chain restaurants. When you eat locally the menu prices are often cheaper.
- Try to stick to visiting low cost or even free attractions. This can take a number off of your expenses.
- Complete vehicle checkup before you depart. You might be able to make some simple vehicle upgrades to save on gas prices.
