If you're getting tired of hanging out in the same spots every year there's always the rest of the world; here are some of the best places to spend Christmas this year. From the busy street of New York City to the quiet beaches of Australia, there is a happening Christmas idea, be it conventional or not. More and more popular are the Christmas getaways.

Why? Well first off, you can travel, leave, and not have to clean up, cook, or bring a plethora of presents. All you need is you, your family or special someone, and a little bit of extra Christmas cash. You can cross something off of your bucket list while experiencing a Christmas getaway that is among the most enjoyable spots to spend this joyous time of year.

MSNBC compiled a list of incredible holiday travel destinations and Christmas traditions that are spoken about around the world. Here's the top 5:

  1. Bethlehem. Need we say more? This is the birthplace of Jesus Christ for Christmas sake, taking a journey out to the beloved spot where the manger lay is a wonderful idea- especially for the religious.
  2. Finland. There is a spectacular Santa Claus Village in this country that is the closest you are going to get to a simulation of a North Pole from the story books. The forests are even full of reindeer!
  3. New York City. It's almost impossible not to have a picture in your mind of what Christmas looks like in the big city. Actually experiencing it is a whole new thing entirely. From the lights to the Rockafeller tree to the endless holiday bashes, there is no place like the Big Apple.
  4. Bondi Beach, Australia. This country likes to carry on the tradition of the "Christmas Orphans" as travelers come from all over the globe to celebrate together and hike along the shore of beautiful Bondi Beach.
  5. The Vatican, Italy. Every year at this sacred location there is a midnight mass for Christmas that is not to be missed, especially for Catholics.

Leaving your home town for a holiday in one of the best places to spend Christmas may be refreshing. At least once!
