The California ski scene may not be as well know as say Colorado or Utah, but it has just as much to offer and tons of surprises for everyone.  The following is a list of a few of the top ski towns in California.  Each one of them would make a perfect vacation destination.

Big Bear Lake

One the major destinations for those looking to ski in Southern California, Big Bear Lake has been attracting visitors for nearly over a hundred years.  Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are the two main ski resorts in town and both of them provide excellent skiing, first class service and all the amenities you’ll need to feel right at home.  The mountain provides ski schools for beginners and challenging slopes for those looking for a new thrill.  If you’re in Southern California and you’re looking to ski there isn’t a better choice than Big Bear Lake.

Mammoth Lakes

Sometimes called Mammoth Mountain, this small town is solely dedicated providing the best experience on the slopes possible.  The town has three terrain parks which cater to every type of skier.  Unbound Main is one of the most popular runs in the area; it is especially designed for extreme boarders and skiers.  Another massive attraction at Mammoth is their collection of half-pipes.  Mammoth is one of the few resorts in the world to offer the Super-Duper Half-pipe that reaches up to 22 feet.  This California ski town is also the one in America to offer three different types of half-pipes.  The town also provides a great selection of down to earth bars and fun nightlife spots.

Tahoe

One of the more famous of the California ski towns, Tahoe is an amazing place to explore.  There are tons of ski resorts in the Tahoe area and overall the city attracts thousands of visitors a year.  Of course there is amazing skiing in the Tahoe area and a wide variety of places to do it.  Diamond Peak, Alpine Meadows, and The Sugar Bowl are just a few of the top notch places to carve up some powder.  Private sled parks can also be found in the area and many of the resorts offer tubing, cross country skiing and snow cat tours.  There are even many fine dining locations and in some cases Vegas style casinos on the Nevada side.  Tahoe has been a major winter attraction for so many years and it’s easy to see why.

Kirkwood

Home to the Heavenly ski park, Kirkwood is a refreshingly laid back alternative to other California ski towns in the area.  Kirkwood is best for those who want to focus solely on the ski experience.  There isn’t as much night life or casinos here.  No, Kirkwood is all about delivering the very best when it comes to challenging runs and beautiful scenery.  Snowshoeing and tubing are also big fan favorites in this ski town.  So if you’re all about the ride and aren’t concerned about what’s on the five star menu that night, Kirkwood is the spot for you.

North or South, vacation getaway or pure adrenaline rush, you’ll find whatever you need in these California ski towns.
