Copper Mountain Lift-Off FestivalThis year marks the 5th annual Copper Mountain Lift-Off, which always proceeds the opening of the ski season. Copper could just open their slopes on November 6th, making many of their ski fans just as happy, but no, they like to do it up in style. The entire weekend of the sixth is filled with nothing but fun, film, frolic, and skiing frenzy. Friday evening begins with a free Movie Tour Pub Crawl, featuring the very best in ski/snowboard film, spirits, raffles, and après parties. This years film will be RE: Session, by TGR.

Saturday morning is another chance to hit the slopes. Last year, all weekend long, guests who rode the Lift Off chair on the American Eagle were given the chance to win prizes, such as lift tickets, season passes, and ski gear. As the sun sets over the mountain in the early evening, the celebration will continue with the annual Copper Mountain Concert, featuring such artists as Blackalicious, Beatnuts, and Rahzel (from the Roots). Last years musical guests were Boombox and Brother Ali, and this years hosts will be announced over the Copper Mountain Website. The concert kicks off around 8 PM.

This year the big news for terrain junkies will be the new Olympic quality 22-foot Superpipe. Spectators will be able to see the pipe in action this year at the 2010 U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix, held for its 14th season on December 10-13. Those who qualify, will hold a coveted spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Until then, the Copper Mountain Snow Gods will be busy making snow with their snow guns, just in case their isn't enough of the natural stuff once November rolls around.
