Amazing Tahoe ski vacation deals can be found in Lake Tahoe. Located on the border of Nevada and California, there are seven ski resorts scattered between North and South Tahoe. Snow activities to satisfy any personality can be found in this historic location in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. No other ski destination has a view of a 2-million-year-old lake!
Since Lake Tahoe is the second largest alpine lake in North America, the area contains the largest concentration of ski resorts in North America, as well. There are 17,520 skiable acres and 535 groomed trails.
North Tahoe ski resorts
Squaw Valley USA has 4,000 skiable acres, 34 lifts, and over 170 runs. Beginner trails occupy 20% of the terrain. When you stay at Red Wolf Lodge at Squaw Valley, you’ll be at the base of the mountain. You won’t have to waste any time between waking up and hitting the fresh powder!
Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort has 2,904 skiable acres, 17 lifts, and 89 runs. The majority of Northstar’s terrain is for intermediate skiers—only 13% are for beginners.
Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe is a smaller resort. It contains 1,200 skiable acres, 8 lifts, and 60 runs. While 20% of the resort is suitable for beginners, 50% is best for experienced skiers.
Alpine Meadows is one of the best resorts for first time skiers. Twenty-five percent of its terrain is for beginners. It has 2,400 skiable acres, 13 lifts, and over 100 runs.
South Tahoe ski resorts
Kirkwood caters to intermediate skiers, with 50% of its terrain geared toward that skill level. The Mountain Club by Kirkwood Resort gives you easy access to lift tickets when you choose to stay at this area of South Tahoe. Kirkwood has 2,300 skiable acres, 12 lifts, and 65 runs.
Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort attracts a mix of skill levels. Twenty-five percent of its 2000 skiable acres is for new skiers. It has 12 lifts and 46 runs.
Heavenly is the largest ski resort in Tahoe. It has 4,800 skiable acres, 30 lifts and 95 runs. Thirty-five percent of Heavenly’s terrain is for advanced skiers.
The ski season lasts November through May. The area is sunny about 300 days of the year—making the 420 inches of annual snowfall even better for Lake Tahoe ski regulars.
