Our friends over at IslandTybee.com have been Tracking the Gulf Oil Spill since the disaster happened and it's sad to see the spill growing so quickly and see BP continue to drag their feet for a grand solution. It's been over a month now and oil is now reaching the shores and affecting wild life at an alamring rate. Here is graphic of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill showing the current state of the spill as of today.

The red dot is the location of the Deepwater Horizon oil well, which exploded April 20th killing eleven rig workers and started this disaster.

Oil Spill Update 5/14 PM -- Slick Moving West

by ABetterStay 14. May 2010 15:42

NOAA's Emergency Response website has updated its 72 hour forecast of where the oil spill is headed. The government agency forecasts that the oil will continue to head north-eastward, away from Florida beaches. The 72 hour forecast states that the current and wind are pushing the slick westward "...under these currents and winds the plume from the source will tend westward towards the [Mississippi] Delta".  This is terrible news for the fisherman and residents of Louisianna where it looks like more oil will come onshore.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to them.  The good news for businesses, residents and tourists to North West Florida is that the oil is moving away from us and the beaches will be clear. To date, NO tarballs have washed ashore and there is no odor or oil on the Florida beaches.

Please consider supporting the local businesses by coming to visit.  You can find great deals in Destin, Ft. Walton, or Panama City. Make your reservation today.

To date, no tarballs have washed ashore and there is no odor or oil on the Florida beaches.  Please consider supporting our local businesses by coming to visit.  You can find great deals for this coming weekend in Destin, Ft. Walton, or Panama City. Make your reservation today.

Travelers have begun to get back on schedule as the Iceland volcano ash disperses to levels that authorities deem safe. Since last week's Iceland volcano eruption spewed massive amounts of ash into the sky and made it unsafe for planes to fly over most of Northern Europe, airlines have suffered debilitating losses and stranded millions. Britain opened most of its air space late Tuesday evening, and air space over the majority of Europe opened Wednesday.
