Besides a practical outlet for travelers looking for a simple getaway, this is also good news for the state economy. Tourism currently contributes over $2 billion more to the state than it did in 2006, according to the state Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism.

Cut A Rug At the Myrtle Beach National Shag Championships

by Admin 17. February 2010 16:32

National Shag ChampionshipsFor Shag Dancers, the National Shag Championships at Myrtle Beach is like a second Christmas! The top Shag dancers from all across the country travel to Myrtle Beach’s Studebaker’s to compete for the winning title.

The National Shag Championship in Myrtle Beach is the nation’s longest running Shag Dance competition, and is the winner of the Two Feathers Award as the "Best Swing Event in the USA." If that doesn’t say the heart of swing dance, I don’t know what does. Winners of this competition have gone on to appear on "Good Morning America," and "CBS, This Morning" among many other television shows.

There are always tons of spectators, and of course talent scouts that recruit the top dancers for national television shows. In Myrtle Beach SC, the National Shag Championships is one of the biggest yearly events around, so needless to say the beach area will be bustling with incredible vendors and delicious foods. The Preliminary rounds start on January 29th, 2010, and the finals (if you make any show you will want to see the finals) start on March 11th, and end on March 13th. This would be a perfect time to book a Myrtle Beach vacation rental to ensure your spot at the championships!

The city of Myrtle Beach is fixing that, and this year has released its plans for making a new haven by the beach.

It's not just the tourists that are going to benefit from this change. The powers that be are looking to construct a fanciful, nostalgic, and almost dreamy stretch of boardwalk that will be enjoyable for both residents and visitors. This over a mile long walkway will host all of the beach-side shops you could hope for plus some "carnivalesque" extras. Hoping to not only boost the economy in this area, Myrtle Beach is looking to get "more on the map" as a favorite family vacation spot. More...
