California Ski Helmet Laws

by Stefanie 19. March 2010 23:42

Ski Helmet

Ski helmet laws in California may soon change. Currently, it is not mandatory to wear a helmet while you're out on the slopes, but last week Democratic lawmakers in Northern California introduced two new bills on the subject. One of the bills requires anyone under the age of 18 to wear a helmet during ski and snowboard activities. Parents would have to pay a fine of up to $25 if their children didn't follow the rule. The other bill regulates ski resort operations, introducing new safety planning procedures.

Lawmakers in New Jersey and New York are also looking to make the use of ski helmets required by law; however, if the new bills proposed in California pass and are signed into law, the West Coast state will have the most strict ski helmet laws in the country.

California lodging options are as diverse as the residents of this legendary state.  Depending on what type of vacation you want to have, you can stay in anything from a hotel to a motel to a condo to a rental.  It all depends on what part of the state you’re in and what you’re hoping to get out of your trip.  There are certain benefits to every type of lodging as well.

Lodges and condos offer guests a chance to experience all the comforts of home with all the service one would expect from a world class hotel.  Lodges and condos often offer great group rates for their larger rooms and in many cases are actually a budget conscious alternative over regular hotels.  Lodges and condos are more typically seen in the skiing areas of California.  Place like Granlibakken Lodge or Lagonita Lodge Vacation Rental and Condos are beautiful lodges located in amazing landscapes perfect for skiers.

Improvements to the mountain resort will include a new lodge, a club in Heavenly Village with lockers and a spa, and updated chairlifts. Lake Tahoe SnowfestPlans are underway for the 29th Annual North Lake Tahoe/Truckee Festival, otherwise known as the 29th Annual Snowfest. The dates are March 5th – 14th, 2010 and the theme for 2010 is 'The Happiest Time At Tahoe.' The opening night starts the proceedings with a bang, literally, with a fireworks display and torchlight parade. It’s an event with something for all the family, including races, parties, concerts, and theatre performances.

Early March is usually the best time for skiing at the resort, as the snow conditions are so good. The event takes place across several resorts in the area, namely Squaw Valley USA, Homewood, Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak, and Northstar at Tahoe. For competitive skiers, the event sponsors a number of competitions. In addition to boosting tourism, Snowfest also gives an opportunity to local non-profit organizations and educational initiatives to raise funds.
