Ski Season Closes With Copper Mountain's Sunsation

by Vacation Rentals 1. April 2010 15:19

Copper Mountain SunsationThe closing of the season at Copper Mountain is a sad time of the year, but it doesn't have to be that way. There is no better way to cheer up a crowd than free music, loads of fresh powder, and beautiful Spring mountain sunsets at Sunsation. A lot of skiers don't realize that the Copper Mountain in the springtime, is actually one of the more enjoyable times to hit the slopes. The locals are busy preparing their yards for summer. The regulars are busy exchanging their snow skis for golf clubs. What this means to the die hard skier is no lines at the lift, more untrammeled snow to conquer, and of course some killer package deals that you would never get away with during the height of winter. And if you think the end of the season means less quality snow, last years celebration dropped record numbers of fresh snow during Sunsation.

Copper Mountain's Sunsation is one of the top rated festivals in Colorado and for good reason. One, it offers some of the best skiing and snowboarding across its 2,450 acres of steep, slopping terrain. Two, its lodging rates and package deals are almost unmatched during this time of the year so why not book your hotel or vacation rental? Lastly, their free concert series features top notch talent, and we're not just talking about one group for one day, but several groups over the course of days. A few of the highlighting concert appearances at Sunsation have been Michael Franti & Spearhead, De la Soul, Galactic, Keller Williams, John Popper Project, North Mississippi Allstars, and The Original Wailers (from Bob Marley and the Wailers).

Copper Mtn. Village Race Series Brings Friendly Competition to the Snow

by Admin 19. December 2009 10:16

Copper Mountain Village Race SeriesMany of the racing series hosted at Copper Mountain are for top qualifiers only and Olympic hopefuls, but the Copper Mountain Village Race Series is a chance for any team of friends or co-workers to come out for some friendly competition. The series has been around for 30 years now, and is open to any age and skill level. You will find everyone from the seasoned pro, to the novice at the Village Series. The series takes place over a period of 10 weeks (January – March) throughout the ski season, with a total of nine races mixed throughout the weekdays.

Registration begins each week at Jack's Restaurant from 8:30 to 9 AM, and the competition begins at 10 AM sharp (don't be late). The events on tap for this year will be the Slalom and Giant Slalom (GS). The Slalom is traditionally the shortest of the races and is comprised of tight turns/gates, fast-paced action, and multiple courses. The GS for those who are unfamiliar, offers fewer gates, wider turns, and is generally a good all around place to start for the novice. After all skiers have made their runs, their times will be tallied, and the quickest competitors will be announced the winners for the week.

After each Copper Mountain Village Race Series will be a lively after party, featuring spirits, video replays of the day, and plenty of free giveaways to take home with you.

The superpipe competition will take place from December 12th through December 13th, 2009, in the heart of the Village at Cooper. by Admin 4. November 2009 08:44

Copper Mountain En FuegoEn Fuego (Spanish for "an epic Saturday evening" if you ask anyone in Copper Mountain!) is a free street party in the Village of Copper, offering an excuse to celebrate the various holidays which come along each ski season. The events surrounding En Fuego are entirely family friendly, and they traditionally begin around 6 PM and conclude around 8 PM. To keep attendees warm and fuzzy through the late evening hours, bonfires are generously scattered throughout the nights events. Fire jugglers are not an uncommon sight, as well as air shows, stomp and rhythm performers, ice sculptures, art/graffiti, dog sled teams, and the signature grand finale fireworks display over the Burning Stones Plaza.

On Saturday, November 28th, En Fuego celebrates thanksgiving weekend with their annual tree lighting in the village. The event kicks off with the spectacular display of Santa and his elves dropping down from the sky (skydiving) into the festivities. Once Santa and his elves touchdown they will continue with the annual lighting of the Copper holiday tree. Copper Mountain is a Gold Mine for Skiers

by Admin 7. August 2009 16:20

The “Copper Mountain Ski Experience,” blessed with the advantages of an outstanding natural landscape and superb terrain  is all about just that – skiing!  The area is home to over 2,400 acres of skiable land, making it one of the largest ski areas in the country.  Featuring 125 unique runs, Copper Mountain has a run for everyone. The western side of the mountain is where the beginner slopes are located, perfect for those learning the sport or those who just want to take it easy.  For those honing their skills, the center of the mountain is where you’ll find the intermediate slopes.

Copper Mountain Ski

However, the biggest challenge and the main attraction of the Copper Mountain ski scene is the eastern side of the mountain, home to the advanced slopes.  The expert “double black diamond” slopes reside on the Copper and Union Peaks, 12,000 feet up.  Further into the expert slope, you’ll find four “expert only” bowls, which include Copper Bowl, Union Bowl, Spalding Bowl, and Resolution Bowl.  These bowls have challenges comparable to those in Vail, Breckenridge, and Keystone.

Unlike some of its more renowned counterparts, the Copper Mountain ski resort features shorter, more efficient lines, ensuring that guests get to maximize their time on the slopes rather than wasting their time standing and waiting in line. Whether you are looking to tackle some of the most challenging slopes in the world, try out your skills on some picturesque intermediate slopes, or learn the sport for the very first time, the Copper Mountain ski resort is by far the best place to do it.  You won’t be disappointed!
