As the Winter Olympics events get underway, visitors and competitors are beginning to notice a trend in the amount of security present. The festivities surrounding these winter games are known to be fun, carefree, and almost like a vacation to all who attend; but how easy can it be to relax with all of the extra enforcement patrolling the area? Many of the normally packed bars and party spots are awkwardly spotted with few faces as opposed to the elbow to elbow scene that is more typical for a time like this.

This writer, director and actor, has recently been getting heat for his rejection from a Southwest Airline flight because of his weight. Although it is no secret that he may be jolly, and even in some circuits, fat, does that give Southwest the right to deny him travel?

Millions Prepare for Another East Coast Snowstorm

by Kaylee 8. February 2010 21:11

East Coast SnowstormJust when everyone thought that this country has had enough for the season, another East Coast snowstorm rears its ugly head. The National Weather Service has warned that between today and tomorrow there will be 10-20 inches for Northern Virginia, East Maryland, and the District of Columbia. This will be the third major snowfall to hit this region in the last seven weeks alone.

Last weekend, an incredible 32.4 inches of snow hit Washington's Dulles International Airport, which is a record breaking number, falling within just a two day period. Now with the new snow falling, the communities in these three areas of the country are hopefully stocked up for impossible road conditions. Federal employees and school systems will be completely out of commission for at least several days in these regions, the only ones out in the storm will of course by rescue workers and emergency vehicles.

Many airports in these highly populated cities are asking their passengers to only show up if they have a confirmed flight; if not, they may be stuck in the terminal for quite awhile. Even Amtrak had to cancel several scheduled trips due to storm related power line outages and weather conditions. CNN did a story on this up and coming East Coast snowstorm, and included additional information about the affected areas.

It's early February: prime time to take those winter vacations out to the mountains, but before you go, make sure you are up on the new statistics that prove just how important ski safety can be.  In a recent research  development that analyzed the data from over 12 studies around Europe and Asia, they concluded that wearing a helmet while skiing cuts down the risk of injury by 35%. That's a substantial enough number to make just about anyone think twice before hitting the ski slopes without the proper head gear.
